We live in an era where competition between technology based industries has forced companies to significantly redefine themselves. Employees are expected to work in cross-functional teams that understand both the technical and business aspects of the industry. The National Organization for Business and Engineering (NOBE) provides a learning environment that helps bridge the gap between business and engineering that is not only essential, but natural.
Chapter History
The National Organization for Business and Engineering (NOBE) – Texas Chapter was originally known as Business Engineering Association (BEA), founded in 2012 by engineering students desiring to educate engineers about career opportunities in the business world. Leadership fell apart after one year, and the organization ceased to exist. Previous members and other engineering students with the same desires later came back and restarted the organization. They quickly developed relationships with industry leaders in the consulting, finance, and entrepreneurship fields. In 2015, BEA officially began the process of becoming a nationally recognized NOBE chapter. Again, leadership fell apart and management crumbled. The organization was again revamped by Michael Lanham throughout 2016, and NOBE – Texas Chapter took off in Spring 2017. Today, we continue to expand our brand on campus and in Austin communities by organizing information sessions, networking cocktails, and other activities aimed at fusing the engineering and business worlds.
National History
In 2006, a member of the Society for Business and Management in Engineering (SBME) at the University of Illinois proposed the idea to take the organization to a national level to gain exposure and recognition, while providing an environment for students all over the nation who are interested in business and engineering. SBME contacted similar organizations at three other universities with this idea, and since then, students from the four universities have been collaborating on the creation of the National Organization for Business and Engineering. In 2007, this vision became a reality, and NOBE is now a growing national organization. In early 2009, the first expansion chapter at Drexel University was formed, and NOBE is currently expanding with new chapters starting this year.
